Homeshareforher.nz is excited about the number of women connecting to find affordable home-share solutions through its Internet portal. If you are wanting to share a space in your home with other wāhine or looking for a home to share, this service is for you. Please share the word.
Home Share for Her is a not-for-profit Trust in the Top of the South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. The Trust was founded in 2022 by a group of women who had been witnessing the growing need for affordable housing in Nelson Tasman and especially the impact the housing shortage was having on women. In November 2023, the Trust launched its website portal, HomeShareforHer.nz. The website is a free service and aims to help women connect with each other to address their housing needs and forge social connections. While it is not a service for women in crisis, the website enables independent like-minded women to find affordable accommodation solutions which, in turn, will help reduce some of the pressure on the public housing system.
How HomeShareforHer.nz works…
The website has step-by-step resources and guides to help Home Owners and Home Seekers through the process of uploading their profiles, connecting and communicating with each other, doing reference checks and setting up sharing agreements. A Home Owner could be someone who has a room or a section of their home they would like to share with another woman – a Home Seeker. Home Seekers can register their housing needs, view home spaces available, and also connect with other Home Seekers directly to hunt for a home together. Sharing could also take the form of sharing some chores in lieu of part or all of the rent – it is something home sharers can work out together as part of their sharing agreement.
