Mauri Ora Hīkoi 2025: A Community’s Stand for Mental Well-being

In the heart of Whakatū (Nelson), a significant event is set to unite our community in a powerful statement of solidarity and hope. The Mauri Ora Hīkoi, scheduled for Saturday, 8 March 2025, at Rutherford Park, aims to honour the sanctity of life and address pressing mental health issues within our region.

Recent data underscores the urgency of this cause. In the 2023-2024 period for Tasman/Marlborough, there were 23 self-inflicted deaths, leaving whānau (families) and communities in deep sorrow. This highlights the critical need for community-driven initiatives focused on mental well-being.

The Mauri Ora Hīkoi is more than just a walk; it is a movement to foster open conversations about mental health, reduce stigma, and strengthen community resilience. Following the hīkoi, participants will gather for an After Event featuring live music, guest speakers, and various activities designed to promote healing and connection.

We invite all members of the community to join us in this endeavour. Your participation can make a difference, offering support to those affected and reinforcing the message that every life matters.
