Diwali 2023
Nelson Tasman is celebrating Diwali, Indian Festival on 5 November from 12-4pm at Founders Heritage Park.
After a successful 2022 Diwali, we are going big for 2023.
The festival originated in India and marks the New Year’s beginning. Although Diwali is largely an Indian festival, it is widely celebrated in other countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Nepal and Fiji.
More than 800 million people celebrate this festival and this year Nelson is celebrating too.
We are welcoming everyone and experience the traditional Indian culture. Enjoy Indian vibrant culture, taste an array of Indian delicacies (all vegetarian), or experience temple rituals.
You can also join us to participate in Rangoli. A floor mandala art that originates from the Indian subcontinent, in which patterns are created on the floor or a tabletop using materials such as powdered limestone, red ochre, dry rice flour, coloured sand etc. We will be making rangoli and this time you can have hands-on experience in making a giant one with us!!
This is a no-alcohol and smoke-free, family-friendly festival.
