Governance Round Table
August 4, 2020 @ 5:15 pm - 7:15 pm
FreeGovernance Round Table sessions
Topic: Boards Getting Real About Strategy
When: Tuesday 4th August 2020 5:15pm to 7:15pm
Where: NMIT
Cost: Free event – registration required
PLACES LIMITED (15 max)
Everyone wants to be strategic these days. It is used to refer to deceit and trickery in reality TV. As an adjective it makes any object or activity sound very important. But does it actually have any practical meaning left? What is a strategy and how is it different from a plan? Where does most strategy come from, and what is a realistic approach to developing a strategy for our organisation? And what really is the Board’s role in strategy (especially where there also is staff)?
This session will be led by Garth Nowland-Foreman, an experienced trainer and facilitator, and non-profit governance expert. Garth is a director of the LEAD Centre for Not for Profit Governance & Leadership www.lead.org.nz, and led the recent Governance Bites series in Nelson. The Governance Roundtables offers a deeper dive on the practicalities of common non-profit board dilemmas and issues. Places are strictly limited so we can sit around a table and together apply real-world improvements to our individual different boards, with the advantage of Garth’s extensive governance experience.
