DESCRIPTION:Volunteering is a great way to build social connections and feel a part of your community. Volunteer Nelson has a new programme in partnership with the Multicultural Council to support migrants to volunteer. \nAs part of this there will be a support team or buddies to help. The role is flexible where buddies may support individuals to volunteer or help with group volunteering sessions when they are available. DESCRIPTION:This is a special event celebrating and reviewing the activities of the 2018 and looking forward to 2019. \nThe Strengthening Community Governance Project began in 2017 and is making significant progress towards short and long term project outcomes that were collectively set at the end of 2017. \nThere is a steering group for the project including Rātā Foundation\, Nelson City Council\, Tasman District Council\, Volunteer Nelson\, Te Pūtahitanga and community representatives. There is also a wider Action Group supporting and informing the project and a community of learning developing around regular Governance Bites training sessions. \nAt this November event there will be an update on progress in key areas throughout the year\, a partners update and an educational session run by Garth of LEAD who has been delivering the Governance Bites sessions throughout the year. \nMore about this Governance Bites session component – the topic is ‘Everything you wanted to know about governing a community organisation\, but were afraid to ask’. SUMMARY:Governance Bites - Purpose of the Board
DESCRIPTION:Over the past six months\, the Strengthening Community Governance Project\, which is steered by Rata Foundation\, Nelson City Council\, Tasman District Council\, Volunteer Nelson\, Te Putahitanga and Community representatives has been working with the governance community to develop an action plan. \nWe are excited to announce the first project from the action plan – Governance Bites. \nThis year long series of workshops aims to provide bite sized learning opportunities and a peer support and networking opportunity.  You can sign up for each event separately\, or come along to all. \nStarting on 7th June (5:15-7pm) with ‘The Purpose of the Board’\, facilitator Garth Nowland-Foreman (Director\, LEAD) will guide you through the topic. Garth has a wealth of experience in the sector\, from staring his own organisation right through to leading a government policy unit\, as well as 20 years teaching experience. \nTo sign up for this workshop\, please complete the Workshop Registration form at Registration Form or call Jane at Volunteer Nelson on 03 546 7681 for more information. \nFurther workshops in this series will be held on the first Thursday evening of the month. They will cover topics such as the relationship between Governance and Management\, Strategic Planning\, recruitment\, succession planning and removing.
