Census 2023

Please help us spread the message that there is still time to participate in the 2023 Census.  The data collected helps government agencies determine what and where support is needed in communities now and in the future.  The data is also used by businesses to help find workers and NGOs to shape support services.

Census collectors will be in communities collecting Census forms and supporting people to participate across the country until 3 May (and 1 June in areas impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle i.e. the Far North, Te Tairāwhiti, and Hawke’s Bay).

Census events are happening in all communities, some with fun for the whole family so parents can complete their Census forms while the kids are entertained. There’s more information on what is happening and where at: www.census.govt.nz/census-support/.

The Census is a snapshot of how things were for you on 7 March 2023.

Filling it in is quick and easy. You can:

    1. Complete it online: You’ll need an access code – it’s on the letter your household received; order over the website at www.census.govt.nz, or freephone 0800 236 787 and the team will organise a code for you.
    2. Fill out a paper form:  To request one, freephone 0800 236 787, or order online at www.census.govt.nz.
