The Habitat for Humanity Nelson

Stoke Build Update

Exciting times on site this week with the ground floor walls being stood up for one block. The Formance outside panels have the insulation already in them and include the bracing for the walls, which helps with the speed of standing up the walls.

Next week we’ll have scaffolding on site and the first floor will all be stood up.

Cabins for Community

As a part of the new stage for Cabins for Community (a joint emergency housing project of Habitat Nelson, The Salvation Army and Victory Community Church), Rev. Harvey Ruru and Rev. Watiri and Bishop Steve Maina blessed the site on Vanguard Street, next to the Church on Saturday. This marks a new stage for this project as site preparations now begin in earnest!  It was great to have so many people join us for the blessing and breaking of the ground.

Under the direction of the Salvation Army’s Housing First programme, people living in emergency housing would be invited to live in the cabins as a way of helping them transition into permanent accommodation. You can see a prototype of one cabin at the back of our carpark at Tahunanui Drive.  Hopefully Cabins for Community Victory Campus will be up and running from July.
