Sustaining Tenancies

Sustaining Tenancies is a service for tenants in private rentals or public housing. It is for individuals, families and whānau requiring different levels of service support including tenants who need a low level of support to stay in their home.

Sustaining Tenancies is a homelessness prevention initiative which aims to assist vulnerable tenants at immediate risk of losing their tenancy. We offer individualised, practical support to tenants by addressing their current needs and working to develop a Sustaining Tenancies whānau-led goal plan.

Some of the services we provide are –

Advocacy with landlords.

Advocacy and support to navigate social and health services.

Referrals to budgeting and other required services.

Life skills coaching.

We also assist the client with Tenancy Tribunal issues and hearings.

We can provide assistance and limited funding for section clean-ups etc that may be a requirement to keep the tenancy.

When tenants have successfully sustained their tenancy and are on track with their whānau-led goal plan, the support service will work with them to develop a plan to become independent of the service.

Our aim is to have an integrated working relationship and good communication with all referrers and associated services who are connected to the client. This is to spread the workload amongst providers and ensure there is no doubling up of services or care plans.
