Grants available to avoid or reduce waste going to landfill

Grants up to $10,000 to reduce or avoid waste going to landfill are available from Nelson City Council’s Rethink Waste|Whakaarohia programme (opens on 21 February and closes on 31 March).

Our new round of annual Rethink Waste|Whakaarohia waste minimisation grants opens on Monday 21 February, and closes on Thursday 31 March.  The maximum grant size is $10,000 (minimum $2,000).

The purpose of the grants is to support projects and activities led by local business, iwi, community organisations or schools to avoid or reduce waste going to landfill.  Additional information, including grant criteria, exclusions and conditions, can be found here: nelson.govt.nz/wastegrant2022.

Examples of previous projects can also be found on our website –  the types of activities which might qualify include project delivery costs, education and workshops, materials and equipment or research. Both new projects and opportunities to significantly extend or develop existing projects beyond ‘business as usual’ will be considered.  Preference will also be given to projects which support the higher end of the waste hierarchy, eg, avoid, reduce or reuse.
