Nelson City Council is currently consulting on proposed changes to its Gambling Policy and is interested in your views.
The Council’s Gambling Policy regulates new venue consents for Class 4 gaming machine (pokies) and Totalisator Agency Board (TABs) venues within the Nelson district.
Council is required to review its Policy every three years and as a result of its recent review, is proposing some changes to:
• Reduce the cap on the number of gaming machines allowed to operate in the district
• Introduce location requirements for new venues, which would prevent them from being located in areas of high deprivation
• Reduce the number of Class 4 gaming machines allowed at new venues
• Make a number of editorial amendments to the Policy.
You can find the full Statement of Proposal including the draft Policy at www.nelson.govt.nz/consultations.
You can submit on any aspect of the proposal including any of the other options that have been considered. Submissions close on the 24 October 2018.
