Youth and Community Works are the Contract Managers for the Street Ambassador Services in Nelson and Tasman. We welcome applications from people who are passionate about young people and community development, and can play a positive role in our team.
The objectives of the Street Ambassador Service’s are to work towards making our town centre’s safe for all users and visitors.
It is intended that this will be achieved by Street Ambassadors being a friendly presence in the Nelson, Richmond, Motueka town centre’s by working with all sectors of the community as well as specifically supporting young people.
The role involves:
>Positively engaging with all people and acting as ambassadors e.g helping newcomers/tourists negotiate the town centre’s and our services, promoting regional events and activities.
>Proactively engaging with young people, building a rapport with them and delivering positive self-care/health messages.
>Working collaboratively with Police, Community Patrol, Maori Wardens and Councils in order to prevent anti-social behaviour and reduce harm.
>Communicating information about Council bylaws, and prohibitions including the Control of Drinking in Public Places, Freedom Camping etc
>Undertaking training – All staff will need to attend our Induction Training programme (Thursday 29 November 2019, 5-9.30pm).
Street Ambassador Shifts predominantly take place on Friday/Saturday evenings commencing first week of December 2018 and concluding mid March 2019. Additionally, shifts may also be scheduled to support events which are likely to bring increased activity and people to the region.
Rostered shifts vary and therefore these are casual positions.
