Volunteers take on census of homelessness

Volunteer Nelson was excited to see a mass turn out of volunteers on Auckland streets on Monday night to assist in running a census of people living without permanent shelter. They were well briefed about handling the census sensitively as they set out eager to chat to people. Take a look at this report and video link: Auckland homelessness census

Alarming to note from current research is that half of those who are homeless are under the age of 25. Many of the adults are working, studying or both – not the stereotype of years gone by. The government wants to address the problem and grateful to all the volunteers who gave of their energy and time to help. If you have a heart for people in need and would like to help in some way, please get in touch with us at Volunteer Nelson. There are many different ways to get involved in a way that suits you.
