This training is free for participants and it should be good – it’s been developed in conjunction with the QPR programme (http://www.qpr.org.nz/) and an expert advisory panel that included Professor Sir Mason Durie. To register for the training create an account with Lifekeepers at: https://www.lifekeepers.nz/account/sign-up, and then go to ‘upcoming training’ and book yourself in (no charge).
For any questions about the training please contact the providers at [email protected]
Some info about the training day from LifeKeepers:
“This free LifeKeepers workshop aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills to help prevent suicide in your community.
Through this training you’ll learn how to talk responsibly about suicide, and gain an understanding of the factors that contribute to being at risk of suicide. You’ll also learn what to look for when someone may be at risk of suicide, strategies for how to have the conversation and ask about suicide, respond with confidence, and engage different services and supports to get them the help they need.
The LifeKeepers programme is an entry level suicide prevention training programme. It has been designed especially for members of the community who have limited knowledge of suicide prevention, and may not be suitable for those with more experience in this area (e.g. mental health professionals). If you are unsure, and would like to know more, please email the LifeKeepers team at [email protected] and we will be happy to help you work out if this training is right for you.”
