NELSON & TASMAN STREET AMBASSADOR SERVICES 2017 – 2018
The objectives of the Street Ambassador Service’s are to work towards making our town centre’s safer for all users and visitors. It is intended that this will be achieved by the Street Ambassadors being a friendly presence in the Nelson, Richmond, Motueka town centre’s by working with all sectors of the community as well as specifically supporting young people.
The role involves:
Proactively engaging with young people, building a rapport with them and delivering positive self-care/health messages.
Communicating with Police, Community Patrol, Maori Wardens and Councils in order to prevent anti-social behaviour, defuse aggressive behaviour and reduce harm.
Communicating information about Council bylaws, and prohibitions including the Control of Drinking in Public Places, Freedom Camping etc
Positively engaging with all people and acting as ambassadors e.g helping newcomers/tourists negotiate the town centre’s and our services.
Undertaking training – All staff will need to attend our Induction Training programme (Thursday 30 November and Monday 4 December 2017, 6-9pm) to gain insight into “detached” youth worker protocols.
