Nelson Multicultural Council and Victoria University are undertaking some research to look at the growing diversity of Nelson Tasman. More than 20% of the people in this region were born overseas and Nelson has the third highest percentage of people born overseas for any region in New Zealand after Auckland and Wellington. New migrants in the region bring a diversity and vibrancy which creates an even richer mix of people in this area. We are interested to talk with them about their experience – to find out what is going well and to see how anything could be made easier as they settle in to their new home. The next workshop will be held at Tahunanui Community Centre, 61 Muratai Street, Nelson on Saturday, 7 October from 10am to 2pm with lunch provided. If you would like to attend, please contact Brigid Ryan, Ph. 5402321 or 021400718. Email is [email protected]

The Child Protection Studies Programme provides students with a broad base of skills, and just as importantly the confidence, to act effectively when children have been abused and to intervene early when a child is at risk.
The Child Protection Studies Programme leads on to the Child Protection Studies Diploma. Graduates of the Diploma often go on to become the leaders and resource people on child protection in their communities, raising the skill and consciousness of the entire community in child protection and advocacy.
