St John is looking for volunteers for two of its services in Nelson: Friends of the Emergency Department at Nelson Hospital and the St John Community Shop in Rutherford Street.
St John Friends of the Emergency Department
St John needs men and women who are compassionate and committed to helping people, to join their Friends of the Emergency Department (FED) team at Nelson Hospital.
FED volunteers provide comfort, information and non-clinical support to patients and their families or friends, who are undergoing or awaiting treatment. Simply be offering a hand to hold, providing a cup of tea or having a friendly conversation can make a big difference.
Volunteers are needed for one regular 4 hour shift each week or relief shifts.
Listening to the patients and relatives is one of the most important parts of this role, as is maintaining patient and staff confidentiality. FED volunteers complete a selection process, including a police check, and training prior to working in the Emergency Department.
St John Community Shop
We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic volunteers to support the day to day running of our bright spacious Community Shop. This could include customer services, cleaning and sorting donated items, helping with deliveries or areas of special interest. Full training will be given.
If you can commit to a minimum of one 4 hours shift each week as part of a rostered team, we would love to hear from you.
