Whakatu Marae Experience – 6 April

Nelson Tasman Citizens Advice Bureau in association with Migrant Connect and Whakatu Marae is hosting an event for everyone interested in becoming more knowledgeable about our local community and New Zealand culture and history.


Whakatu Marae personnel will welcome us and explain their history, their relationship with the Nelson community and how their marae links to other marae across NZ.

Programme

9.15 am               Meet outside the front gate of the Whakatu Marae 99 Atawhai Drive, Nelson

9.30 am               Karanga – calling visitors onto the marae

Powhiri – a traditional welcome for visitors to the Marae

11.15 am             Kai – morning tea served in the Whare Kai

12 pm                   Poroporoake (farewell)

All welcome!

Preference will be given to migrants and newcomers to NZ and numbers are limited.

No charge for admission but there will be an opportunity to give a gold coin ‘koha’ (donation).
