Following on from the article of the same name in Community Network Aotearoa’s monthly publication “Network News” (issue April 2016), we can let you know that a template to assist with the rewriting of constitutions is now available on their website at http://communitynetworksaotearoa.org.nz/resources/ This is a combined trust/society template so take out what doesn’t apply to your organisation. The template has been produced by the Southland Community Law Centre and updated to include the contact officer and mediation/arbitration requirements of the new Act.

The good news is that all changes will have a lengthy “Transition” period of at least two years. This will enable all incorporated societies to take time to revise their constitutions and ensure that they comply with the requirements of the new Act and Regulations once they are passed and put into place.
