PHARMAC are visiting towns around New Zealand – Consulting on (TPP) implementation and other proposed changes

PHARMAC will be proposing some changes to the way people make funding applications for the Pharmaceutical Schedule. They want to talk to people about these proposed changes. Feedback on this will be important to ensure that they continue to make the best decisions for New Zealanders.

They get applications from a wide range of people asking them to fund a variety of different medicines. Soon, they also expect to be asked about funding particular medical devices.

Some of the changes that they’re proposing to the funding application process are needed for PHARMAC to meet the Government’s obligations under the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

These changes are administrative in nature and are made up of setting a timeframe for considering funding applications, and establishing a specific review process for funding applications that PHARMAC has declined.

They’re using this as an opportunity to propose some improvements to their processes at the same time. Neither the TPP or other proposals would change the fundamentals of the PHARMAC model. The outcome of the consultation could mean changes to some sections of PHARMAC’s Operating Policies and Procedures (OPP).

The consultation will be published on their website soon. They encourage you to provide your feedback. In September and October 2016, PHARMAC will be visiting a number of communities across New Zealand. We’re looking forward to meeting people across the country and getting your feedback on how we’re doing.

All New Zealanders are in some way, and at some time, affected by the decisions we make. We want to make sure that we’re continuing to make the best decisions.

As part of the PHARMAC forums, we want to talk about some changes we’re proposing to our application process.  To register online for the community forums go here: http://www.pharmac.govt.nz/about/operating-policies-and-procedures/tpp-implementation
