Volunteer Nelson is increasing the capacity of young people to run Student Led Volunteering projects in their schools and communities by providing an accredited training programme. The training equips young people to be able to run youth development projects with an emphasis on volunteering.
Through a similar training programme which ran in January this year Volunteer Nelson are currently supporting Youth Led Volunteering initiatives in Nelson College, Nelson College for Girls, Waimea and Nayland College.
Young Leaders from Waimea and Nelson College for Girls have set up youth volunteering facebook sites with over 300 students signed up. Nelson College and Nayland College are running volunteering projects alongside their senior/junior student mentoring programme with mentors and mentees undertaking volunteering together. We also have older young people (18-24 years) undertaking youth community based volunteering projects.
We will deliver this training for young people from the Tasman area over two weekends during May and June 2016. The training will be held at the Bridge Valley Camp in Wakefield. The volunteering project will run from July to October. For more information contact Sally Wood firstname.lastname@example.org or Holly Drummond email@example.com. Applications close 12 May.
