Mental Health Awareness Week ‘Giving Competition’

Mental Health Awareness Week runs from 5-9 October

The theme this years is “Give”. (from the ‘Five Ways to Well-being’ model)

Health Action Trust (http://www.healthaction.org.nz) will be working with the Mental Health Foundation’s annual promotion over Mental Health Awareness week to highlight one of the five key action areas which people can use to build and maintain their well-being, and that action is ‘Give’.

In this approach, ‘Give’ simply means things like giving our time, our words, our attention to others. Not only does this benefit the receiver – and the wider community – but research shows that this act improves the well-being of the person who does the ‘giving’.

Locally, we are helping to create awareness of the week and the Give initiative by asking people to nominate others who have been worthy ‘Givers’, and those nominated would then go into a draw for a small gift as a gesture of thanks.
