Getting started with bees: Two introductory sessions with experienced beekeeper and tutor Nigel Costley. Although only four hours in total, this broad-ranging course will attempt to cover any queries you may have.
Session One: 7pm, Tuesday, 9th June. The
biology and life cycle of the honey bee. Something also on the history
of beekeeping, with emphasis on the Langstroth hive revolution and the
evolution of modern beekeeping. This will also cover the diseases and
enemies of the bee (including humans).
Session Two: 7pm, Tuesday 16th June. The hive and products of the
hive which includes honey, the economic importance of pollen and
pollination, and several other products. The constituents of the hive
and what equipment you must have. What is entailed in setting up a hive?
