Most of you have probably heard of the gigatown campaign. Although it is a “competition” some of the work being done in our community will have benefits whether Nelson wins or not.
One of the areas of focus is the development of a “digital strategy” for Nelson.
It looks very likely that Nelson will be in the final of the national Gigatown competition to win cheap and superfast broadband for the city. If we win this could have major implications for our community, ranging from job opportunities, education and economic development, through to social connection and resilience. In the final towns will be judged on their digital strategy – so a team of volunteers are currently working on a draft. Looking at the community development perspective is important – both the opportunities and challenges.
Please come along and contribute as a group of creative and informed people who care about the future development of Nelson. This session is intended to provide you with some background and context; start to identify new ideas and approaches, and maybe form a working group to contribute the content to the digital strategy around community development.
This competition has already been a catalyst for new ways of collaborative thinking – whatever happens next this conversation addresses many of the questions we need to be asking around new technology and our community, so we hope you can come
