Food for Families Food for Families Nelson is made up of volunteers dedicated to helping other members of their own community. Food for Families is a not for profit organisation that depends on support from the local business community and private donations.
New Zealanders are becoming more aware of the increasing need for food relief in our own communities. Over the years Kiwi families have given generously to support overseas victims of natural disaster and poverty, now it is time to help ourselves. Sadly, often due to unforeseen circumstances, an increasing number of Kiwi families are now struggling to sufficiently meet their daily dietary requirements.
One of our goals this year is to serve fifteen hundred free Community meals here in Nelson, served through programmes such as our “Free Community Dinner” at Victory Community Centre and “Free Student Lunches” at Nelson Polytechnic. A good variety of healthy, natural food packed with the vitamins and minerals required for an active family does more than just fill the belly.Studies have shown that families with a well balanced diet show better behaviour, concentration and energy levels, and offering healthy meals is a very practical way of helping families in our Community.
Here are a few ways you may wish to get involved: If you have any spare produce from your garden, we can use most things in our meals. If you have some spare time, we always require volunteers to help. If you would like to offer some financial assistance, you can donate directly to our account: Food For Families 03 0693 0440593 00 Donations of $5 or more are tax deductible and a receipt can be issued upon request.
To offer assistance you can txt, call, email or message me through Facebook. Thank you for your kind support. Martin Reading. Food for Families Coordinator 021 0515664 firstname.lastname@example.org
