About Nelson Connects

The Nelson Tasman region has a number of attractions that draws people to live here and many people sixty plus in age choose to relocate to the region. In fact the Nelson Tasman region has the fastest growth rate of people over the age of sixty. They are often retired or moving towards retirement. This is a great time to become involved in volunteering. Community organisations are highly dependent on the contribution of volunteers to deliver services. Participation in volunteering activities has been shown to be beneficial to the mental and physical health of the volunteer and contributes to an overall sense of wellbeing.

Step 1 Sign up as a volunteer

Once you have signed up as a volunteer on our home page, you will be able to view approximately 250 volunteering roles. You can then respond to any volunteering opportunity that interest you.  As part of Nelson Connects we can  help to make community organisations aware  of the skills and experience that you can bring.

Step 2 (optional) Create your volunteering CV

Please go to https://goo.gl/forms/cmFpg7IMuBwKuBsn1   to create your volunteering CV. This is an opportunity for you to exhibit the skills and experience that you have developed in your working life as well as through sports, hobbies and other recreational activities.

Step 3: Letting organisations know about you

We will circulate your CV amongst our 175 member organisations so that they can become aware of the contribution that you could make to the organisation and those that they serve. These organisations will be able to contact you directly to discuss volunteering.

An additional service offered by Volunteer Nelson as part of the Nelson Connects programme, is to actively promote older volunteers to our member organisations. People in the sixty plus age group have skills and experience that have been developed over decades in their working life as well as through hobbies, sports and other recreational activities. This expertise could be just what a community organisation is looking for and could make a huge contribution to the organisation and the people that they serve. Volunteer-involving organisations are largely unaware of the expertise that older volunteers possess and we would like to make them more aware by developing your volunteering CV. We would then actively promote you by circulating the volunteering CV amongst the appropriate organisations. Should you wish us to circulate your volunteering CV, please go to https://goo.gl/forms/cmFpg7IMuBwKuBsn1  , to complete the CV template. Organisations may choose to contact you directly or through Volunteer Nelson.
