Community Law in conjunction with Volunteer Nelson are holding a workshop on Education and the Law.
Workshop: School Stand-downs and Suspensions
If you work with youth and/or families it is vital that you and your organization have a better understanding of this important area of law. It is our experience that many parents and young people do not understand their rights and are not well supported at Disciplinary Meetings. Removal from school can have a devastating impact on students and their families and contribute to a downward spiral of joblessness and crime. Youth Law is a National Community Law Centre specializing in Youth Legal Issues. In 2014 Youth Law took Green Bay High School to court and the Judge quashed the High School’s decision to suspend then exclude a special needs student.
Workshops facilitator, Mira Taitz is the Legal Education Coordinator for Youth Law.
$37.50 + GST per/workshop. Venue: ACC rooms, Cnr Halifax & Collingwood St, Nelson
